One of the most sobering passages in the Bible is 2 Thessalonians 2:10-13:
10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
If we are to be successful in our relationship with God, we must develop a love for truth. A love for truth pushes us to discover what God requires not what we desire. A love for truth requires that we search the Scriptures desiring to find and do the will of God. A love for truth compels us to thoroughly obey Biblical commands regardless of societal pressure. A love for truth walks hand in hand with a passion for the Word of God.
A love for truth enables us to stand for what is right. Daniel, Esther, and Joseph all stood firm in times of great difficulty because of an abiding confidence in the Word of God.
Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble. – Psalm 119:165
If we possess a love for truth, the Bible promises us great peace and the ability to withstand stumbling away from God. Conversely, if we receive not a love for truth, God himself may send a strong delusion that we would believe a lie. Now that, my friend, is scary.
When we search the Scriptures to find justification to do what we want to do, we are not demonstrating a love for truth. We are walking away from a love for truth when we willfully harbor areas of sin in our lives. A love for truth is not evident when we view the Bible as a text to be manipulated to suit our purposes. When the Word of God is not a priority to us, a love for truth is not on display.
With everything that is at stake, it is crucial that we receive, develop, and cultivate a love for truth.
